As the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang draws to a close, the pony car is enjoying a resurgence in popularity.

With so many new safety and performance features, not to mention a new body design that is unmistakably muscular, it’s no wonder the Camaro and Challenger are left scratching their heads as to how they can keep pace with such an engineering marvel.

Well now that considerable hurdle is about to become even more daunting as the Shelby GT350 and Shelby 350GTR are soon to be rolled out. The Shelby is one of the most coveted and sought after cars each year and this year is no exception, as there will be only a limited number made available to the public. Though a price is not yet known, there are a few details which we have been able to discover such as the fact that of the mere 100 to be released, half of the GT350’s will be equipped with a technology package and the other half will have a track package. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V8, 500 horsepower 6 speed manual transmission Shelby has come a long way since its inception in 1965, and yet in many ways it has stayed the same, maintaining the same sense of forward thinking style and top notch performance combined with a marketing strategy that creates a primal urge to possess the car above all others.

Creating want through rarity is nothing new for the Mustang Shelby since the original 1965 only saw 37 models made available for purchase in that inaugural year. To honor that fact, Ford plans to roll out only 37 Shelby 350GTR’s, which features a Voodoo mill and will be 60 kg lighter than the GT350, while the limited number will no doubt leave enthusiasts fighting tooth and nail to get their hands around the wheel of one.
